Hungry. That’s how I felt after alighting our plane at Changi Airport in Singapore. We tried to search for the nearest food joint we can. We noticed Toast Box in one corner of the airport. We were searching for a McDonald’s or any fastfood store since we were not familiar with any Singaporean food spot but Toast Box caught our eyes. (Actually, we found a McDonald’s after eating in Toast Box. It was on the opposite side of Toast Box.)

I don’t regret eating at Toast Box. This made me curious about trying other Singaporean food. The food at Toast Box is good and at times, really hot, literally. I had a chance to taste the popular Kaya toast and Kopi. Kaya toast is toasted bread with jam and butter. It was sweet and creamy, perfect substitute to our usual pandesal. The kopi is their special milk tea. Again, perfect substitute to the regular Nescafe 3-in-1 we pair with our pandesal.

I also tried their local version of “Chicken curry”. The dish is chicken wings and potatoes with very spicy curry sauce. Good thing it comes with rice. It balances the very spicy and creamy sauce.

My bro tried the Mee Siam. It is Singaporean noodle dish. It had a distinct taste, a bit sweet and spicy. It is something new for my palate. I especially like the boiled egg on top. :)

The Chicken Curry and Mee Siam are available with free drinks. They came with iced barley. This is something new from the common iced tea we have here in the Philippines. This drink is a perfect pair to their spicy dishes. It helps wash away the heat.

There are already Toast Boxes spread throughout the metro. I haven’t been to any but I hope what they serve is similar to what I had in Singapore.

Spread some awesome..ness.. :D
