The Grand Palace (or Phra Boromma Maha Ratcha Wang) is a popular tourist destination in Bangkok, Thailand at present. The Grand Palace used to be the official residence of the King of Thailand (King of Siam in the past) since the 1700s. However in 1925, the King and his Royal Court moved out of the Grand Palace and now reside at the Chitralada Palace. Yet, the Grand Palace is still commonly used for certain ceremonies and official events.

The Grand Palace is complex that houses different Wats (or Temples). The most popular is the Replica of the Angkor Wat (or Wat Chai Wattanaram).

I think thousands of people, mostly tourist, visit the Grand Palace. Many field trips are also done in this place. As a proof, we’ve seen many kids in their uniforms who fall in line while touring the palace. Isabel even photobombed a class picture or the whole class photobombed her.

There are few rules regarding clothing that must be followed when you enter the Grand Palace.

Prohibited Outfits

Prohibited Outfits

The following clothes are not allowed such as:

- Sleeveless shirt

- Vest

- Short top

- See-through

- Short pants

- Torn pants

- Tight pants

- Culottes

- Mini skirt

But don’t worry, in case you go there wearing any of the prohibited outfits and you didn’t bring other clothes to cover yourself there is a Tourist Service Center that lends clothes. You need to give a deposit of 200 Baht but they will give it back to you once you return the clothes that you borrowed.

There are many Royal Guards in the Grand Palace. Some are just on stand-by in certain areas of the palace while some are in formation and march around.

When we spotted a Royal Guard on stand-by, we didn’t miss the photo-op. :)

I tried to scare the guard. Boo!! But I failed, he didn’t even flinch.
