Bistro Ravioli in SM Mall of Asia
Budget : ~Php200-300
Duration : ~1-2 hours
Bummers : none
Watching many Lifestyle Network and Asian Food Channel shows until wee hours in the morning exposed me to the Italian pasta known as ravioli. This pasta is made of two thin sheet of freshly made egg pasta dough, where one sheet is layered on top of the other and a filling is placed in the middle (like a sandwich). Then, the sides are sealed to keep the filling at the center from oozing out while cooking. The filling used varies but the most popular that I have seen in many cooking shows is made from spinach and cheese.
So, after getting my car serviced at Toyota in Roxas Blvd., I drove off to SM Mall of Asia (since it’s just a stone throw away from there) to have a taste of Bistro Ravioli (I have seen it before when we stuffed ourselves with food at Vikings.) I heard a lot of good feedback on how awesome the food is here so I wanted to try it for myself. And I also wanted to personally meet the ravioli.
Bistro Ravioli has a simple, cozy, and bright atmosphere. Everything is just white – from the couches to the tables to the overhead lamps. This design is matched by large images on the white walls that show different food served at the bistro. There are also a few quote from Julia Childs, Sophia Loren, and Bellini.
Ravioli is rare in the menu of many restaurants in our country. I think, you can mostly find it in fine dining restaurants (where you have to splurge some serious dough for this pasta dough
.) But I think Bistro Ravioli’s prices are reasonable, don’t you agree?
Bistro Ravioli is popular for serving fresh pasta and brick oven pizza. I am not a fan of brick oven thin crust pizza, and so far only Amici’s Four Cheese Pizza has met my standards. Everything else either has a tough crust or a burnt crust or a very tough crust.
Since I was decided to meet the ravioli and among the ravioli options this one sounds the classiest to me, I got the Salmon Ravioli in Saffron Cream Sauce (Php210). If you use salmon and saffron together, I think that’s are really classy dish. I only see those two together on TV. The right way to eat a ravioli is to slice it and let the filling ooze out. Then, smother it with the cream sauce.
The sauce is flavorful because of the saffron and the cream. The salmon is soft and tasty. I really enjoyed this dish I forgot about the garlic bread that came with it. So, I just used the bread to wipe off the remaining cream sauce after finishing the entire plate.
I had a taste of the Garlic Seafood Spaghetti (Php180 for the solo size). It had mussels, shrimps, squid, green and black olives, and capers. Its sauce is made of grated garlic and I think extra virgin olive oil (because it tasted like that). I love the garlicky taste because it’s not too strong.
The Diablo Wings (Php270) had a taste that transforms from sweet then sour then spicy. This transformation of tastes allows me to remember this chicken wing dish easily. The cream sauce that it comes with help extinguish the spice. But actually, it isn’t very spicy so you might not even need the sauce.
As I said before, I am not a fan of brick oven thin crust pizzas. I am more of thick and stuffed crust foodie. But since Bistro Ravioli only serves thin crusts, might as well given it a try.
I am so glad that I tried their Quattro Formaggi (Php375) because it is the softest and chewiest thin crust pizza I ever had. The cheese on top is creamy but I wish that it had added a few bits of blue cheese or any cheese with strong herb taste so it will have something different. Anyway, not a lot of people love blue cheese so it’s okay. Overall, this four-cheese pizza was really good!
My bro and I had Red Iced Tea (Php35) and Lemon Iced Tea (Php35). Surprisingly, they tasted different because the Red Iced Tea is sweet and tasted like the popular red iced tea we know. While the Lemon Iced Tea tasted lemony and a little less sweet than the red one. I was surprised because I thought since they are priced at Php35 each, they would taste the same and just have different colors. Lol.
The serving portion at Bistro Ravioli is just right for me but for people who have huge appetite, one serving might not be enough. So, get two.
Spread some awesome..ness..
