If you are looking for a budget-friendly place to stay in Hong Kong, I highly recommend HK Tai San Guest House. This guest house is located right at heart of the busy streets of Nathan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong. Aside from the budget price, I highly recommend HK Tai San Guest House for first time travelers because it is just a stone throw away from the Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station and almost all buses that you need to ride to go to different tourist spots have a stop right in front of the building. Even the bus to and from the airport stops at this area.

From the airport, you just need to take bus A21. Just inform the driver to drop you off Tsim Sha Tsui. Anyway, if you’re from the airport, a lot of people gets off the Tsim Sha Tsui stop. Buy an Octopus card to make your travels easier because this card can be used for MTRs, buses, and even popular fast food chains and convenience stores. If you’re at the airport, you can easily purchase the Octopus card from the Customer Service booth.

The Octopus card costs HK$ 150 or Php 852. It is preloaded with HK$ 100 and the HK$ 50 serves as the deposit for the card. The minimum amount you can reload on the card is HK$ 50. You can go below HK$ 35 when using your Octopus card so if your balance appears to negative, don’t panic.

HK Tai San Guest House is so clean. Upon entering, you will need to carry your shoes/sandals/flip flops that you wore outside. The floor is so clean you can walk barefoot.

Though the room may be a bit small, which is common to many guest houses in Hong Kong, it is very clean and the place appears to be very safe. The building where HK Tai San Guest House Harilela Branch is located may look old and worn out but the inside of the building look just fine. Many buildings in Tsim Sha Tsui appear old and worn out but you can be sure that they are safe to stay in.

A word of caution, riding the elevator may be a bit scary but don’t worry, I think it’s pretty safe.

Every room in HK Tai San Guest House have their own clean bathrooms that have hot and cold water. However, the bathroom doors are usually made from glass and have no locks so if you will be staying with friends who aren’t that close to you, you might feel a bit awkward. :)

Here is a photo of their bathroom which I got from Tai San’s website. Our bathroom closely resembles this one.

They provide fresh towels everyday. They also provide soap, liquid soap, and hair conditioner. They also clean the rooms daily.

Our room in HK Tai San Guest House has a personal computer that is connected to the internet. It has a remote control that converts the monitor into a television but there are only a few channels and most of them are in Chinese. Anyway, you’re most probably spending most of your time outside and exploring the city so this won’t be an issue. They also have Wi-Fi so that you can still connect to the internet through your mobile devices.

You can use the kitchen at HK Tai San Guest House but I think it would be nice if you clean up afterwards. Since, I don’t want cleaning, we usually eat outside. You can use the water dispenser for free because you’ll probably need lots of fluid when walking around Hong Kong. Oh, and most restaurants don’t give a glass of water for free so you better bring yours.

If you will be visiting the tourist destinations in Hong Kong such as Ngong Ping 360, HK Disneyland, Ocean Park, The Peak, Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum, Sky Terrace, and Macao, you can ask the caretaker from HK Tai San Guest House because they sell tickets at discounted prices. Aside from getting discounts, buying tickets from them will save you more time instead of buying the tickets directly from the places you will be visiting.
