The Venetian in Macao
Duration : half day
Bummers : long walks
The Venetian Resort Hotel is a popular tourist destination for shopping and casino gambling in Macao. It is a 40-storey structure that has a hotel tower with 3,000 suites on the Cotai Strip in Macao. It is considered as the largest single structure ever built in Asia and the largest casino in the whole world. It has 3,400 slot machines and 800 gambling tables. The casino is divided into 4 different themes. These are called Golden Fish, Imperial House, Red Dragon, and Phoenix.
The Venetian Macao houses the second largest Venice-like space where the largest is the actual Venice in Italy. The third largest Venice-like space is the one located in The Venetian Las Vegas. The Venetian Macao is also known to have the largest number of Filipino gondoliers in the whole world. Based from what we saw, Filipino gondoliers are awesome and have great singing talent. This rad gondolier was even waving at us.
The Venetian Macao exudes luxury and elegance on its hotel, casino, and shopping arena. The lights, the ceiling, the walls, and the carpets – all of these contribute to the beauty that is the Venetian Macao. Even the Grand Canal Shoppes is an epitome of the high life.
The Grand Canal Shoppes houses the best brands in clothing, watches, jewelries, cosmetics, and even food. This is also where the real-life replica of the Grand Canal can be found. For a few Hong Kong dollars, you can try riding the canal via gondola.
Before we went to the Venetian Macao, we always thought that the pictures we see of the place are outdoors because of the blue sky and the flowing canal. So we were very much amazed to see an outdoor view in an indoor location.

Insider Tip:
When you arrive at the Macao pier, you can look for the Venetian Shuttle Bus just outside the pier that will bring you to the Venetian Macao for free. There are many Filipinos outside the pier that will offer services for touring you in Macao. They usually ask for a fee, maybe a couple of hundred HK$. You can choose to avail their services but on a personal note, it is relatively easy to tour Macao on your own. You just need to know what shuttle buses to ride that pass near the tourist spots that you plan to visit like The Ruins of St. Paul. Also, check out the schedules of the free shows that you can watch in different hotels and casinos in Macao.
If you plan to try out gambling, you can do it for free. Most casinos allow free membership registration by presenting your passport. This is one of the reasons why we didn’t avail a tour guide. Most of them will also ask for your passport so they can register it to the casino and play. This can cause delay and hassle especially if you plan to travel back to Hong Kong on the same day.
When you get lost roaming around Macao, don’t worry because there are many Pinoys there. Just ask for directions and you will certainly find your way around. That’s how we did it and it proves how accommodating Pinoys are wherever they are in the world.
