Weekend with Friends at IHOP Philippines
There is no better way to cap off a tiring week but a chill weekend breakfast with your best buds. And since IHOP, acronym for International House of Pancakes, recently opened its first shop at a corner in BGC, a true-blue foodie wouldn’t miss it for the world, even if it meant falling in line for several minutes to a few hours.
IHOP is a homegrown breakfast nook in the US and though I haven’t been there yet, I have learned about it with the ginormous number of posts of pancakes and French toasts on Instagram. So when I heard it was opening its first store, I know I wouldn’t let a weekend past without paying homage to it. So, I manned up and persuaded my best friends to give it a try with me, even if it meant standing up outside the shop for a long time waiting to be seated.
Yes, after at least an hour, we were finally seated. We were served by Gelo and he introduced us to IHOP‘s menu.
Here are the good stuff we tried at IHOP.
The Chocolate Chocolate Chip Pancakes (PhP 255) comes with two chocolate batter pancakes filled with chocolate chips. It is drizzled with powdered sugar and topped whipped cream. There is a buttermilk option for the pancake but I didn’t get it because it might defeat the chocolate chocolate redundancy in its name. I love chocolate so I went with this one.
The Double Blueberry Pancakes (PhP 275) had two pieces of buttermilk pancake filled with blueberries and topped with warm blueberry compote and whipped cream. IHOP seems to like redundancy and maybe you just can’t get enough of something unless it comes in double. In a place where there are not blueberry fruit-bearing plants, I can’t help not to wonder how the blueberries on top of the pancakes kept their great quality.
Strawberries are not my thing because they tend to be very sour for my taste but not the ones topped on the New York Cheesecake Pancakes (PhP 285). This one had thick and fluffy buttermilk pancakes with rich cheesecake bits. It is decorated with powdered sugar and whipped cream. The icing on top is not icing but large cool strawberry pieces used to crown it. And this pancakes deserved it.
The Strawberry Banana Danish Fruit Crepes (PhP 265) is a sweet crepe filled with strawberry and cream cheese. If that is not enough to get you drooling, it is topped with strawberry, banana, and whipped cream. This is good for people who are not into thick pancakes. Light, sweet, and fruity.
For those with large leaning towards stuffed pastry, the stuff French toasts are nice treats. Two of my friends ordered the Stuffed French Toast Combo (PhP 365). One had the blueberry compote topping while the other had the cool strawberry.
The Stuffed French Toast Combo is served with two eggs, hash browns, and a choice between two bacon strips and two pork sausage links.
So, was the wait worth it? I’m leaning towards saying yes. It is one of the best breakfasts I had and their pancakes are truly phenomenal. It’s one of the best breakfast place you can go to. Even with the hype and long queues, I will probably pay it another visit soon.
