Primero Casa Filipino – An All-You-Can Eat Affair

Filipino food is a melting pot of various flavors inspired from the countries surrounding us. That is why Filipino food is a little difficult to put in a box and define. Every lift of the spoon and fork brings something different, which is why we don’t get easily used to it. Even when we are out of our houses, sometimes it is still something that we look forward to have even if we dine out at lunch or dinner.

The hidden spot of Primero Casa Filipino offers a buffet of Filipino goodies with a good number of options that change daily. Many of the dishes in this restaurants are served in hot buffet trays. Some are filled with creamy kare-kare and mixed veggies while others with a medley of seafood and steamed fish fillet.

The thing I liked with Primero Casa Filipino is that it gives a homey ambiance right from the moment you get out of your ride and walk towards its door. It looks like Primero Casa Filipino is a home converted into a restaurant, which is why it gives that kind of feeling. Dining inside the resto makes you feel like dining in one of your friends’ home, which makes devouring all the dishes a lot easier.

Shabu-shabu and a Long Stroll in Minato-Mirai (Yokohama, Japan)

Shabu-shabu is commonplace in Japan. Just like tempura, sushi, maki, ramen, udon, soba, katsu, (and the list goes on..) this dish is something you should not miss when visiting this country. With autumn kicking in, having shabu-shabu is second to perfect to a steaming bowl of ramen. The boiling soup on the hot pot shared with good friends make it awesome though.

 

Different soup base can be used for shabu-shabu. What we had that night is a creamy soup base (left) and basic herbed soup base (right).

Shabu-shabu normally comes with thinly sliced beef but through time, different types of meat and seafoods were also used. Our shabu-shabu came with thinly sliced beef and two types of pork – one similar to the meat used for pork chop dishes while the other looks like the meat used for bacon. The meat given to us are neatly cut and it is extremely thin that you can see right through them.
