Primero Casa Filipino – An All-You-Can Eat Affair

March 20th, 2013 No comments

Filipino food is a melting pot of various flavors inspired from the countries surrounding us. That is why Filipino food is a little difficult to put in a box and define. Every lift of the spoon and fork brings something different, which is why we don’t get easily used to it. Even when we are out of our houses, sometimes it is still something that we look forward to have even if we dine out at lunch or dinner.

The hidden spot of Primero Casa Filipino offers a buffet of Filipino goodies with a good number of options that change daily. Many of the dishes in this restaurants are served in hot buffet trays. Some are filled with creamy kare-kare and mixed veggies while others with a medley of seafood and steamed fish fillet.

The thing I liked with Primero Casa Filipino is that it gives a homey ambiance right from the moment you get out of your ride and walk towards its door. It looks like Primero Casa Filipino is a home converted into a restaurant, which is why it gives that kind of feeling. Dining inside the resto makes you feel like dining in one of your friends’ home, which makes devouring all the dishes a lot easier.

A Day of Tempura and Kaiten Sushi in Yokohama, Japan

December 16th, 2012 1 comment

As a foodie traveling in Japan, it is a must to try local Japanese food fare and experience the authentic thing. I was already three days into my 10-day vacation in the land of deep-fried battered seafood and raw fish, and I haven’t had any Japanese food yet so I made sure that on this day, I would try at least one. Luckily, before the day ended, I was able to try two – tempura and sushi.

Talking to several locals during my trip, I have learned that some of the best tempuras are from Asakusa and Shinjuku. Tempura, for those who are not familiar with it, is a popular Japanese dish of battered and deep-fried seafood or vegetable. I think the most popular of tempuras is the shrimp tempura.

To get my tempura fix, I dropped by Tempura Tendon Tenya near Shin-Yokohama Station.

A quick tip: restaurants in the Japan will give you a Japanese menu first but most of them have an English menu. To ask for one, say “Eigo de kudasai”, which means “English please”. For a quick peek of Tempura Tendon Tenya’s menu, get it here.

If you’re wondering what tendon means, tendon is merely tempura served on top of a bowl of rice.

Tenya’s All-Star Tendon lives up to its name as it contains everything you may want such as prawn, squid, scallop, lotus root, Maitake mushroon, and string beans. This huge bowl of tendon is priced at JPY 650.
